Steve McCurry為蜚聲國際之攝影師,
曾獲得多項包括「年度雜誌攝影師」等重要攝影獎項,
其作品多強調對生活在戰火下人們的刻畫。
首見於1985年6月號《國家地理雜誌》
(National Geographic Magazine)封面的
「阿富汗少女」──那張鼎鼎有名,以一雙無比澄澈、
卻又隱約透露著惶悚和戒備的湖水綠眼睛震懾世人的阿富汗少女肖像,
便是出自Steve McCurry之手。

憑著過人的勇氣,
Steve McCurry隻身前往戰區拍攝珍貴的照片,
其獨家照受到國際媒體爭相採用,
更贏得了象徵富冒險精神的Robert Capa金牌獎。
他的攝影足跡遍及阿富汗、巴基斯坦、兩伊戰爭、
波斯灣戰爭、柬埔寨、菲律賓、葉門、印度、西藏....等,
作品廣見於《國家地理雜誌》等世界各地的雜誌及刊物。

於本年六月至七月期間,
Steve McCurry於新加坡的Asian Civilisations Museum
舉辦個人攝影展,並在當地與Epson合辦一連串之攝影講座及活動。
在Steve的助手及經紀人的穿針引線下,
Laurence得以赴新一睹國際級大師的風采!

看畢Steve個展的作品,Laurence深刻的感受到,
「捕捉精采的瞬間實不容易,
拍攝者必須對當地人民的生活有一定的認識及感受,
才能拍出扣人心弦的照片!」

Photographer Meets Photographer

Steve McCurry is an internationally recognized photographer,
and a recipient of numerous top awards in photography,
including Magazine Photographer of the Year.
His works focus on the depiction of people’s life
in the storm of war. “The Afghan Girl”,
which debuted as the cover photograph on the June 1985
issue of National Geographic magazine,
has won critical acclaim and captured the attention
of the whole world with her mesmerizing clear green eyes tinged
with alarm and fearfulness,
is regarded as one of the best known works taken by Steve McCurry.

With extraordinary bravery,
he launched his photojournalism career with his coverage
of the Soviet war in Afghanistan.
His exclusive images were widely published.
His coverage won the Robert Capa Gold Medal
for Best Photographic Reporting from Abroad,
an award dedicated to photographers exhibiting exceptional courage
and enterprise. He then continued to cover international conflicts,
including the Iran-Iraq war, Beirut, Cambodia,
the Philippines, the Gulf War, and Afghanistan.
McCurry's work has been featured world-wide in magazines
and he is a frequent contributor to National Geographic.

From June through July,
a solo exhibition of Steve McCurry is being held at
Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore,
and Steve will also host a series of seminars
and events in collaboration with Epson.
Through Steve McCurry’s assistant and agent,
Laurence has the opportunity to meet with this photographer of great renown.
